Expire shared Drive documents automatically after a set period

The problem
Documents are routinely shared with external parties or broadly across the domain, but rarely reviewed or revoked. Sensitive files can remain accessible far beyond their intended window, creating security and compliance risks.
How it works
- Enumerate files in Drive which have been shared externally or with broad link access.
- Track the share date and calculate which files exceed the defined sharing interval.
- Use the delegated service account to remove external permissions or update sharing settings for expired files.
- Notify file owners or stakeholders of the action taken.
What changes
Document sharing is time-bounded by policy, and files do not remain externally accessible beyond their intended period without explicit review.
Questions people ask
Can this handle shared drives as well as My Drive?
Yes, but permissions inheritance and membership are more complex in shared drives. Test thoroughly to avoid removing internal access unintentionally.
What happens if a document is reshared after expiration?
The workflow will catch it on the next run and re-apply the expiration logic, but you may want to alert the owner if repeated sharing is detected.

This is a pattern we run in production. We will set up the delegation and build this on top of it — $500 per hour, most of it working the same day.
