Deliver scheduled Workspace reports to stakeholders
Automate regular report generation and email delivery to internal or external recipients using a delegated service account.
| Who it is for | Ops, finance, or analytics teams automating recurring reporting. |
|---|---|
| APIs | Sheets API, Gmail API |
| Typical scopes | gmail.send, sheets.readonly |
The problem
Manual report distribution is error-prone and always late when someone is out. Ad-hoc scripts run under personal tokens break when an account is suspended or leaves, and tracking delivery is unreliable.
How it works
- Build the report in a Workspace Sheet, updating data as required.
- Have a delegated service account fetch the latest data using sheets.readonly.
- Generate the attachment or content (PDF, CSV, body text) as needed.
- Send the report to the recipient list via Gmail API under a durable mailbox identity.
- Log sent messages and failures for audit.
What changes
Reports arrive reliably on schedule, from a consistent sender, regardless of staff changes or holidays.

Questions people ask
Can I send from a group address as the sender?
Only if the group is configured for 'send as' and the service account is delegated to a user with that permission. Otherwise, you must send as a user mailbox.
What file formats can be sent?
You can generate and attach PDFs, CSVs, or plain text using the Sheets API export endpoints before sending via Gmail API.
Want this built?
This is a pattern we run in production. We will set up the delegation and build this on top of it — $500 per hour, most of it working the same day.
