Set out-of-office replies across the entire organisation
Apply standardised out-of-office responses to all users via delegated access, useful for company shutdowns or emergencies.

The problem
During company holidays or incidents, individual users rarely set their out-of-office, leading to missed communications and confusion for external contacts. Manual reminders are ignored or forgotten, and there’s no native admin control to set this globally.
How it works
- Collect the list of active user accounts from the directory.
- Impersonate each user via domain-wide delegation.
- Use the Gmail API to set the out-of-office response, including dates and custom message.
- Optionally, log changes and notify users for transparency.
What changes
All mailboxes reply with a consistent message, reducing uncertainty for both senders and recipients during absences.
Questions people ask
Does this overwrite personal out-of-office messages?
Yes, the API call replaces any existing vacation responder. Save previous settings if you intend to restore them later.
Can I set different messages for internal and external senders?
The Gmail API supports separate messages for internal and external senders, but you must specify both explicitly in your payload.
Want this built?
This is a pattern we run in production. We will set up the delegation and build this on top of it — $500 per hour, most of it working the same day.

Send mail as a shared alias from automation
Deliver notifications, confirmations and campaign replies from a branded address like support@ or updates@ without a human in the loop.
